Banished at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire
Early March saw a highly successful run of four performances of Banished at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Conducted by Paul Wingfield and directed by Daisy Evans, the opera featured student singers drawn from the vocal faculty and instrumentalists from throughout the Conservatoire.
This was the third new production since the opera’s premiere at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance where Opera Magazine noted: McNeff’s ambitious score certainly merits further outings, as any major company looking for a punchy maritime alternative to ‘Dialogues des Carmélites’ might find. It’s easy to imagine Banished achieving college repertory status. Subsequent production like 2019 at the Royal Irish Academy of Music
Banished is published by Peters Edition and the full score can be viewed at this link: https://issuu.com/editionpeters/docs/ep72857-p_89caffb254fc6f
